Festivals

Like other provinces in North of Vietnam. Halong Bay also has many traditional festivals. They are mostly held in Spring time when people in Vietnam have more free time to celebrate and worshiping their national heroes or ancestors.

 

Bach Dang festival

 

Held on the 8th of April lunar calendar in Yen Hung District. It celebrates in few nights to remember the victories of Quyen King in 10th century, Tran Hung Dao  genaral in 13th century who had struggled against foreign aggression (Chinese and Mongolian). They used a cave in Halong Bay as storage to hidden their wooden stakes then planted them to Bach Dang riverbed to make a trap to sink enemies’s boat.

 

During the festival, there are traditional games organized such as boat racing, chess, cock fighting and incense burning ceremony to national heroes.

Cua Ong Temple Festival

 

This is one of the longest festival in Halong Bay. It takes place from first day of lunar month to the end of third lunar month. The festival held in temple of Cua Ong where local worship the one of brightest hero under Tran dynasty (13th Century) - Tran Quoc Tang (the third son of famous general Tran Hung Dao) who defeated Chinese and brought the pace to local people in the area.

 

The temple got a beautiful location, sits back to the mountains and facing to scenic Bai Tu Long Bay. Apart from traditional games, people also celebrate a special ceremony of carrying Tran Quoc Tang’s funeral tablets from the temple to around commune to pay respect to this hero.

Cua Ong Festival

 

Yen Tu Festival

 

The biggest festival in Halong Bay area. It is attractiveness for million of Buddhism’s followers yearly. The festival opens on 9th of first lunar month till end of third lunar month yearly.

 

There are 11 pagodas and many towers from the bottom to the peak which high of over 1000m above the sea level. Travelers will have a great time to join with local pilgrimage and natures. It is worth to summit to the peak to visit the final pagoda and you will have a beautiful views down to the areas.
